ELIZABETH THE GREAT

ELIZABETH THE GREAT

She's a superhero on screen and a superstar in real life. Here, Elizabeth Olsen talks signature dance moves, dream roles and why helping others have always been on the top of her list.

From Avengers to Old Boy to Wind River. Since making her big screen debut in 2011, Elizabeth Olsen has quickly become one of Hollywood's brightest shining and most versatile stars, frequenting some of the past years' biggest superhero flicks, most adored dramas and hyped indie films.

Growing up as the younger sister of America's favourite child stars, Elizabeth Olsen's idea of normal has always been a bit different than everyone else’s – having paparazzi's and gossip magazines following the family's every step throughout the 1990s. While her older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley quit acting to launch their hugely successful fashion label The Row, Elizabeth decided to pursue it instead.

In an exclusive interview, we caught up with Elizabeth after shooting H&M's Spring fashion campaign to talk about her career, her charity work, and dancing with her idol Winona Ryder

She is the exception to the saying 'never meet your idols'. You should absolutely meet her.

ELIZABETH OLSEN ABOUT WINONA RYDER.

THE THEME OF H&M'S SPRING CAMPAIGN IS 'TAKE THE LEAD'. HOW DO YOU INTERPRET THE MEANING OF THAT? WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO TAKE THE LEAD?
"Taking the lead inspires girls to be confident and bold; speak up and stand up. If we inspire girls at a young age to take the lead, we encourage them as they grow up to become young women who know their opinions matter, are valued and are needed."

THERE'S A LOT OF DANCING IN THE COMMERCIAL. WHAT'S YOUR SIGNATURE MOVE?
"In life? The Pee-wee Herman dance."

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH WINONA RYDER ON THIS COMMERCIAL? HAD YOU MET BEFORE?
"I've never met her before this commercial. I have admired her work my entire life. She is the exception to the saying 'never meet your idols'. You should absolutely meet her."

WHO ARE SOME OF THE WOMEN WHO INSPIRE YOU?
"My mother, all three of my sisters, my closest friends, and the women I work with on a daily basis. I've always been surrounded by incredible women and feel very lucky for that."

WHAT'S THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECTS OF YOUR CAREER?
"I love my job because of the constant creative challenges. I've loved being able to take on new roles on projects, and I feel very fortunate that I get to continue to do my job."

WHAT'S YOUR DREAM ROLE?
"My dream role... for theatre. Mary Tyrone from Long Day's Journey Into Night and both Maureen and Mag from The Beauty Queen of Leenane. I've got to wait a bit before I get to cross those off the bucket list. I also would love to stage a version of Strange Interlude."

WHAT UPCOMING PROJECTS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT?
"I've begun filming a TV show for the first time. It's a project I have been a producer on for years and now it's finally happening. I'm pretty excited about that. I also love getting to see the Marvel films for the first time since I don't really know what happens in them. So, both Avengers 3: Infinity War and the following one, yet to be named, will be a thrill to see."

YOU'VE STARRED IN AN ARRAY OF SUPERHERO MOVIES. IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"I get this question a lot and I always say I would love to be able to have the power to heal. But I think I would love to teleport as well."

WHO IS YOUR HERO?
"I couldn't pick one out of all the women I love."

I've always been surrounded by incredible women and feel very lucky for that.

CHARITY WORK IS VERY NEAR AND DEAR TO YOU. HAS DOING GOOD ALWAYS BEEN IMPORTANT TO YOU?
"I have never believed in the mentality of gripping onto what is yours tightly. I have always believed, from a young age, that if you're fortunate enough, your responsibility is to be a conscious citizen of the world. I also believe in 'act locally, think globally'. Both charities I work with, The Rape Foundation's Stuart House and The Latitude Project, act locally in order to influence globally."

WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH FASHION? HAS STYLE ALWAYS BEEN IMPORTANT TO YOU, OR IS IT SOMETHING YOU GREW INTO?
"Fashion has always been an ever-shifting personal experience. My personal trends have evolved since I begun dressing myself. I was lucky enough to have high aspirations."

YOUR SISTERS RUN ONE OF THE MOST BUZZED ABOUT BRANDS IN FASHION. WHAT'S THE BEST STYLE ADVICE THEY'VE GIVEN YOU?
"I don't think they have said this to me but I think of the following when I think of The Row: less is more. It's important to note that their good taste goes way beyond clothes."

HOW HAS YOUR PERSONAL STYLE EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS? IS THERE ANY PERIOD THAT MAKES YOU CRINGE?
"My college years were not my greatest. I think I was focused on other things that were important though, so I don't fault myself that much."

SPILL SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU!
"I fear people know too much."

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
"Hopefully retiring in another country that has multiple seasons."
