THE NEW SKINCARE ROUTINE

THE NEW SKINCARE ROUTINE

While makeup is indeed fun, skincare is fundamental. From cleansing to shaving (yes, you read right!), get the low-down on the latest techniques.

DOUBLE-CLEANSING
The bedrock of any skincare regime is cleansing – not only to remove makeup, but also better prepare the skin for serums and moisturisers. Which is why double-cleansing makes good sense. Start with oil or balm cleanser to get rid of makeup and excess sebum, and then follow with a water-based cleanser (milk, gel or clay, depending on your needs) to wash away sweat and environmental nasties. The important thing is to apply the first cleanser to dry skin so you literally break down the makeup and sebum before emulsifying with warm water. Rinse, pat dry and immediately go in with the second cleanser. Marvel at your new, smooth canvas.

FACE MASSAGE
Exercise is good for you, right? So working your facial muscles must be, too! And it is – simply massaging your face a few times a week can help with a more defined jawline, brighter complexion, plumper cheeks or de-puffing eyes. Easily slip a massage into your routine with an oil cleanser or your go-to face oil after cleansing. Massage with two fingers in circular motions starting on your forehead, moving outward toward your temples, gently around your eyes a few times, and then downward along the nose, cheeks, jawline and neck. Rinse if you’re cleansing, leave your face oil to absorb if using that. And the best bit? It all only takes a few minutes!

DERMAPLANING
Shaving your face is a scary prospect (Won’t the hair grow back thicker?! Short answer: no), but it turns out that there are benefits – exfoliation, glowing skin and smoother makeup application, to name a few. While dermaplaning proper is done by a dermatologist, you can do a stripped-down version at home with just a razor (just not one you’ve already used on your legs). Start at the top of the ear and shave going down to the jawline and in towards the nose, to get the whole cheek, jawline, chin and upper lip. Then do the sides of the face by the eyes, followed by the forehead, using downward strokes. Note: very little pressure is needed and make sure to shave only clean, dry skin.
