HOW TO MANAGE OILY SKIN
Does your face look like a greaseball by noon? Thankfully, oily skin can be easily managed with a simple re-think of your skincare routine and the addition of a surprising ingredient.
WHAT HAVE YOU GOT?
Good skin (most of the time) with a healthy glow.
SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
My face is an oil slick by lunchtime. Makeup can slide around. I also worry about spots.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO…
The bad news first: oily skin is something you’re born with and no amount of product is going to change that. The good news: you can definitely manage oily skin! First and foremost, look at your skincare routine. While anything that tingles (think menthol, eucalyptus, lemon) or contains alcohol may feel helpful, they’re most likely drying and/or irritating your skin and making it produce more oil. Yuck. Also avoid any skincare or makeup products in cream forms – they’re major pore cloggers, which exacerbates oil production and can sadly lead to larger pores and spots. Stick to liquid, gel or serum formulations instead. If you’re not exfoliating with salicylic acid (BHA), start now. You’ll not only have more refined pores, but it’ll also calm oil production, too. And when it comes to makeup, mattifying primers are a dream come true. They stop unwanted shine before it starts and make your makeup adhere better. Next, absorbing any excess oil is key. This is where blotting papers come in handy, followed by a dusting of powder. Go on, whip out that chic compact of yours.
