H&M Life gives you the 10 most fashionable holiday destinations, All Over Press.
Top 10 fashion crowd destinations
There are vacations and then there are fashion vacations. These are the places where the industry, its icons and hangers on go to when they are looking to relax (and sometimes work) in style.
10. THE HAMPTONS, USA
Due to its proximity to New York (the very rich travel there in helicopter only), the Hamptons finds itself the summer destination for stylish people, celebrities and fashion insiders such as Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and editor of Yahoo Style, Joe Zee. Just be sure to be on the guest list.
9. SAINT-TROPEZ, FRANCE
It might have been a fashionable hotspot for a few decades now, but Saint-Tropez is still a place that attracts the stylish people. Elsa Schiaparelli has been supplanted by Lady Gaga and Vanessa Paradis, but when Karl Lagerfeld is walking the town streets, you know this is the place to be on the Riviera.
8. LAMU, KENYA
As a place that came onto the map with the rise of the gypset, Lamu attracts people who are looking for spiritual and relaxing times. Naomi Campbell is one of the fashionistas known to frequent the town – she even brought a yoga instructor to the old medieval settlement.
7. THE COTSWOLDS, UNITED KINGDOM
The cute, yellow limestone villages and fairytale countryside of the Cotswolds have proven to have an irresistible pull on the British fashion crowd – especially as it’s only a couple of hours drive from London. Stella McCartney has a place here, as does her bestie Kate Moss (who famously also got married here). Don your wellies and pour the tea!
6. TOKYO, JAPAN
If there’s one city where fashion people go for holiday and inspiration it is Tokyo, the ultimate destination for cool stores, street style, great food and new, interesting fashion labels. Little surprise then that this is a favourite of blogger Susie Bubble and street style photographer Tommy Ton’s.
5. COACHELLA, USA
The official start of summer fashion is but a short trip for the LA fashionistas. It combines good music, party and dressing up and therefore you see everyone from Alexa Chung (when in town) to Kate Bosworth, Kendall Jenner and model Alessandra Ambrosio here, bettering their indie credentials.
4. MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
It’s difficult to think of any destination that has gotten as much traction from its fashion connection as Marrakech. When Yves Saint Laurent decided to decamp to the Moroccan town with muses like Loulou de la Falaise, he basically set the tone for fashion vacations of today.
3. IBIZA, SPAIN
It might be known mainly as a party island of the raunchy kind, but Ibiza also has a free-spirited heritage that still attracts a bohemian fashion crowd. As far back as 2006 there were rumours that Kate Moss and then beau, Pete Doherty, would announce their engagement on the island. But it was in 2014 that the island reached its fashion peak with the star-studded 40th birthday party of Givenchy Designer Riccardo Tisci. Everyone was there.
2. MYKONOS, GREECE
In August, when most of Europe is on holiday, where do you find people like Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing or Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared? On the Greek island of Mykonos, of course. The island attracts a big gay crowd each summer, ready to party – and network.
1. TULUM, MEXICO
Mix yoga and pristine beaches, and you have the fashion crowd’s favourite alternative to more classic destinations such as St Barth’s. This is where people like Nicola Formichetti, Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein, Carine Roitfeld and Mario Testino go to unwind and party in the most relaxed and low-key way possible.
