7 style lessons we learnt this year
We round up the best H&M styling from this year’s Everyday Icons.
BEST LAYERING: MARGARET ZHANG
Everyday layering is an art – in which Australian tastemaker and photographer Margaret Zhang always excels. A crisp white shirt makes for the perfect base for everything: Here paired with a lace-up shirt and an open-sleeved jacket. It is all in the details.
BEST MIX OF HIGH AND LOW: MUSIA TOTIBADZE
Mixing fancy and casual is the often the secret behind street style stars' most successful looks. Moscow It-girl Musia does this so well, juxtaposing this metallic pleated dress with a casual denim jacket. Applause!
BEST HAT: SISI LI
Hats are hard, guys. Instead of adding that final touch to an outfit, there is always a risk you end up ruining everything. For some fabulous hat inspiration, turn to Shanghai style icon and club promoter Sisi Li. Lesson learned: Keep your overall look simple and let your accessories do the talking.
BEST KENZO X H&M STYLING: SASHA MIKHALKOVA
With a hyped collection such as Kenzo x H&M, it’s all about making it your own. Russian writer and artist Sasha Mikhalkova pulled off just that, styling this Kenzo x H&M dress with a casual sweater and a cute beanie.
BEST TRACKSUIT LOOK: JUSTINE LEE
2016 was the year the tracksuit fully made its comeback in fashion. We saw multiple tracksuits at and around the fashion weeks, and we totally adore this killer look worn by Hong Kong fashion editor Justine Lee.
BEST OUTERWEAR: ANKA TSITSISHVILI
We absolutely adored this light coat from H&M Conscious Exclusive SS16, and Georgian style icon Anka Tsitsishvili styled it so well with a simple t-shirt, light-wash denim and a pair of loafers. The perfect way to dress down an eye-catching statement piece.
BEST USE OF PATENT LEATHER: TINE ANDREA
Patent was the texture of 2016, a trend we’ll happily bring with us into the new year. The trick is to pair the shiny surface with other textures – something Norwegian blogger Tine Andrea masters, as she styled her patent H&M trousers with a furry jacket and a cosy hoodie.
