10 MOMENTS THAT MADE US BELIEBERS
We’re all very excited about Justin Bieber’s album release on 13 November, so to celebrate the occasion, we’re counting down ten of the moments that made us Beliebers over the years.
10. FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEOS
It’s hard to believe that Biebs was ever anything but a superstar, but remember where it all started: a humble 12-year-old recording R’n’B covers and his mother uploading them to YouTube. This quickly got him a manager and soon, international fame beckoned.
9. BEAUTY AND A BEAT VIDEO
He’s been a chart-topper since day one, but with the release of Beauty and a Beat in 2012, Justin broke a different kind of record: most views of a Vevo music video in its first 24 hours. That record had previously been held by One Direction, but Justin topped over 10 million in just one day.
8. THE 2013 BILLBOARD AWARDS
By 2013, Justin had earned hall of fame status, racking up a Milestone award at the Billboard Awards, as well as the Top Male Artist award. “I’m 19 years old,” he said during one acceptance speech. “I think I’m doing a pretty good job.”We’ll say, Justin!
7. THE SIGNATURE HAIRCUT
We all have an unfortunate haircut or two as teenagers, but for Justin, these were all played out in public. His recognisable elongated comb-over bowl cut became his signature style, until he changed it up for a new look in 2011.
6. JIMMY FALLON DRUM BATTLE
A recent appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon saw Justin take to the drum kit to battle in-house supremo Questlove once again. It was a tough re-match, but Bieber gave it his all, showing off yet another talent up his musical sleeve – and forcing Quest to walk off stage in disappointment.
5. USHER SIGNS JUSTIN
Every teen idol needs a mentor, and Justin’s came in the form of Usher, who was once a teen idol himself. Signing with Usher, at the age of just 13, made sure Justin got off to the most promising start in the pop world, and the two remain tight to this day.
4. THE ULTIMATE DATE WITH SELENA
Putting himself in the running for the Best Boyfriend Award, Justin went to huge lengths to impress his girl Selena Gomez on one date in 2011, renting out the whole Staples Center in LA for a romantic dinner and a screening of Titanic. As he tweeted later that evening: romance isn’t dead.
3. MY WORLD 2.0
In 2010, Justin made his chart debut, releasing first album My World 2.0, which went straight to the top of the charts. That made him the youngest solo male artist to do so since Stevie Wonder, and the whirlwind tour that followed established Justin as a pop sensation of huge proportions.
2. CALVIN KLEIN CAMPAIGN
A fashion coup for the star, Justin nabbed a spot in a Calvin Klein underwear campaign, following on from the likes of Christy Turlington, Kate Moss and of course Marky Mark. The ads forced us all to ask hard questions, like “Is Bieber really as hot as Mark Wahlberg?”
1. THE BIEBER INSTABUM
For a brief moment, it was talk of the town: Justin Bieber had uploaded a picture of his own bum to Instagram. He bared all in a snap from a tropical location that racked up thousands of likes before he deleted it – citing embarrassment over a family friend seeing the snap as his grounds for deletion. A savvy move, Biebs.
