Blogger and fashion freelancer India Rose is an expert in casual, down-dressed elegance. Read on for her guilty pleasures and style tips.
India Rose started her eponymous blog when she was studying photography at college. A few years later, she has developed india-rose.co into a cross-cultural platform. Based in London, India Rose freelances her way through the modern fashion industry, mostly as a digital and creative consultant, sometimes a stylist.
Since we envy her ability to look down-dressed and chic at the same time, we asked Adam Katz Sinding to photograph some of her most stylish everyday looks. Click through the slideshow to see them all – and read on to learn how she does it.
WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
”Being comfy. I like to mix high fashion, casualwear and menswear together, attempting to make everything wearable in the most effortless way possible.”
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER?
”[Céline creative director] Phoebe Philo mainly for being a cool person I look up to. Besides the clothes, she takes an intelligent approach to fashion and is a family woman, who keeps her private life private. Yang Li and Rosetta Getty are two others I admire, both with skateboarding as their primary introduction to style.”
WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?
”I don’t have a particular style icon, but as I moved around so much as a kid and always felt slightly displaced, I identified more with subcultures. My biggest influences have always been skateboarding and music.”
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY FASHION PLEASURE?
”Finding any excuse to wear my tracksuit.”
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH?
”It changes yearly as I continue to travel, but Berlin is up there. I make sure I visit at least once a year. I get the best feeling every time I touch down in that city.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
”I love East Asian and Moroccan food, but I have an indefinite weakness for a cheeseburger.”
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO LOOK?
”Tuxedo trousers, white tee or shirt, sweatshirt, Vans and a coat three sizes too big.”
WHY IS FASHION IMPORTANT?
”For me, it contributes to your identity in a similar way that music does. It gives me a sense of belonging wherever I go, as I’m not someone that feels like I belong to anywhere in particular besides living in the UK.”
IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN HISTORY, WHAT FASHION ERA WOULD YOU LIKE TO
”The era that continues to inspire me daily is hip-hop in the late 80s and early 90s, mainly on the East Coast. I’d be there in a minute.”
WHAT IS YOUR LATEST BEAUTY DISCOVERY?
”A makeup artist I recently worked with introduced me to QV Intensive Ointment, a fragrance, colour, Lanolin and preservative-free treatment for very dry skin conditions. The water in London is hard and dries out my skin in winter, so I use this all over my body. Since using it on my face I haven’t had one blemish either. I couldn’t recommend it enough.”
