NYFW front row report by Zanita

New York Fashion Week has come to an end. With a little help from blogger and photographer Zanita Whittington, we round up the best shows, the front row trends and the hottest topics from NYFW.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WAS ALL ABOUT…
”Ankles. My favourite thing about NYFW is always the chaos outside the shows; I love seeing different interpretations of the runway pieces through show goers’ personal style. The best trend hands down this season has been flat shoes of all varieties; sneakers and brogues and slides. Everyone is so much happier in a good flat shoe! I also spotted a whole load of people wearing cropped jeans and trousers, so bare ankles are in season.”

MY FAVOURITE SHOW WAS…
”I always love Tommy Hilfiger because of the playful energy and colour, it’s such a great production – and maybe I’m biased, being Australian – but this season Zimmermann was unbelievably beautiful. The workmanship that went into every piece was astounding and the show left me with such a romantic feeling. I would love to steal the whole collection and shoot the pieces in an editorial somewhere in the Swedish countryside.”

BUT WHY…?
”I don’t think I’m ever really left feeling confused over a trend – one thing I will say – I love the trend of long bell sleeves or long shirt sleeves that extend over the hands, but it’s damn tricky to eat a meal without getting food all over the garment! It’s so gorgeous, but not really the most practical of trends.”

THIS SEASON, EVERYONE ON FRONT ROW WAS WEARING…
”Front row was much more subdued this season, the devil was in the details. I think people are looking more stylish than ever – but subtlety is more valued than in the previous seasons, which were all about the bold and loud. I love all the unique gold jewellery pieces paired with minimalist handbags, interesting denim styles and shirt shapes.

EVERYONE TALKED ABOUT…
”Their dinner plans. Whenever I run into someone I know at the shows here in NYC, we’re always planning ahead so we might meet for dinners in other cities! I’ve already made dinner plans in London, Milan AND Paris. Going to an intimate dinner and catching up with friends is always the best way to decompress after a long day of shows.”
