Kaitlynn Carter: ”Writing is how I express myself”
Blogger and fashion entrepreneur Kaitlynn Carter talks songwriting dreams and collarbones on the set of H&M Magazine’s swimwear shoot.
When Kaitlynn Carter moved to California, her parents asked her to start a blog so they could keep up with her life. A few years later, it has turned into a business. Besides her own blog Western Wild she is also the co-founder of an e-commerce platform, and of course, a social media star. Add a new (highly-publicised) engagement to boyfriend Brody Jenner – there is a lot going on in Kaitlyn Carter’s life at the moment.
Although on this day, on the set of our swimwear shoot, chilling by a pool in Beverly
Hills, she seems relaxed. Low-key, almost, yet super sweet. She talks
about studying English and journalism in college, and how teaching
creative writing was one of her dreams.
”I still write short stories. I have so many! I go back to them from time to time and make tweaks to them. It is like with people who play instruments, that’s how they express themselves. Writing is how I express myself.”
I have a really big thing for one-pieces right now. Especially with cut-outs.
”A few weeks ago I started on a song – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I studied the violin growing up and have always loved music. The song is based on my relationship with my boyfriend. We had an argument and I wanted to get some things out that I necessarily didn’t want to say to him. It was the perfect opportunity to start a song!”
HAVE YOU SHOWN IT TO HIM?
”No! It’s funny, when I read it now it’s just really raw and kind of angry. I obviously don’t feel like that anymore! (Laughs.) But I would like to write more in general, so this is a direction I would like to go in.”
MODELLING BIKINIS TODAY, WHAT KIND OF SWIMWEAR ARE YOU INTO?
”I have a really big thing for one-pieces right now. Especially with cut-outs. I want to feel comfortable but stylish, still. I don’t like to feel over-exposed. Tasteful, classy.”
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT YOUR BODY?
”I never appreciated my collar bones growing up. They are really defined, which I thought was weird. But now I find them pretty, and a lot of people compliment them. I am not too worried about the things boys like, like boobs and ass! (Laughs.) Everyone has their insecurities, but I think I am pretty comfortable in my own skin.”
