This month will give us the premiere of the new Star Wars movie, Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Florian Meacci.
NEED TO KNOW: DECEMBER
It’s the holiday season! Whether we’re glued to the television, dusting off our lightsabers or hunting down the latest food trend, here are some gifts we can all look forward to this month.
It’s that time of the year for the catwalk extravaganza we know as the Victoria Secret’s show! Celebrating 20 years, it airs on 8 December and has musical guests Ellie Goulding, The Weeknd and Selena Gomez. Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid earned their wings this year, while VS veteran Lily Aldridge will be wearing the “fantasy bra” – a sight worth every penny of that $2 million, if you ask us. Meanwhile, no holiday season would be complete without a pop angel releasing a seasonal album. This year, it’s Kylie Minogue – Kylie Christmas features a divine mix of original songs and well-loved classics.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that this month sees the worldwide release of the latest Star Wars (The Force Awakens) on 17 December, plus the anticipated premiere of sci-fi drama The Expanse on 14 December on the Syfy network. For stars of a different nature, however, there’s A Very Murray Christmas, the special directed by Sofia Coppola and written by Coppola, Bill Murray and Mitch Glazer. Set in New York's Carlyle Hotel, Murray acts and sings in sketches with a variety of celeb pals such as George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph and Jason Schwartzman (4 December on Netflix). And 30 December brings us the limited release of what is already being hailed as a masterpiece and the perfect film – Charlie Kaufman’s stop-motion Anomalisa.
Stock up on those boxes of tissue now. After 22 cycles, the world is saying goodbye to Tyra and America’s Next Top Model, and frankly, there won’t be a dry eye in the house. But always a woman to turn anything negative into a positive, the last ever episode will also air on Tyra’s birthday 4 December. Cue the party tunes!
BUT SAY HELLO TO PRE-AUTUMN
What do fashion seasons even mean anymore? While we mull this over, designers will begin showing their Pre-Autumn collections this month. This could come in handy when compiling our gift wishlists.
Sure, we’ll all be tucking into traditional festive fare this month, but spare a thought (and space in your stomach) for the following food trends right now: beetroot as a star ingredient to replace meat in main dishes, croissant-anything (we live in a post-Cronut world – all hail the croissant pizza, croissant sushi, croissant-wrapped baguettes), smoked-anything (butter, potatoes, olives, collard greens) and reinvented salads (Caesar into a sandwich, elevating iceberg lettuce). Yah, you read right: iceberg lettuce. And no, hell has not frozen over, even though…
BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE
Take this holiday season (and hopefully time off!) to cosy up to the latest in beauty. Lounging by the fireplace and eating too many mince pies? Sounds like the perfect time to try out one of those lash serums everyone is talking about. Evidently, thicker, longer and stronger lashes can be had in just a few weeks. Find yourself on bracing winter walks? Then look for anything with the ingredient Blue Tansy – its thought to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, plus soothes and reduces redness. Have a party to go to? Currently, beauty addicts are trying to hunt down the Japanese hairdryer diffuser (made by YS Park) that all the hairstylists were using at fashion weeks. It decreases frizz like nobody’s business, perfect for that ‘do you’ve just spent ages on. Happy holidays, everyone.
