The top 10 most stylish weddings

It’s not all poofy frocks and bridezillas: these inspiring weddings get top marks for fashion, fame and fabulous brides, with a little help from some designer bridal dresses.

The brides Audrey Hepburn och Elizabeth Taylor, All Over Press.

AUDREY HEPBURN AND ANDREA DOTTI
Audrey Hepburn’s marriage to second husband Andrea Dotti in 1969 saw the actress pick a slightly unusual dress by her friend and costumer Hubert de Givenchy – a simple pink woollen number with a matching headscarf for their wedding ceremony.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR AND RICHARD BURTON
All of Elizabeth Taylor’s eight weddings make excellent fodder for the annals of fashion, but it’s her 1964 match with Hollywood heartthrob Richard Burton that really gets our pulses racing. In a short yellow chiffon gown and with flowers in her hair, the pair were a vision of glamour and romance.

Mick and Bianca Jagger, All over Press.

BIANCA AND MICK JAGGER
Bianca Jagger, née Pérez-Mora Macias, made fashion history on a summer day in 1971 when she walked into a town hall in St Tropez wearing a YSL Le Smoking jacket over her wedding dress. With Mick Jagger at her side, the pair set the benchmark for a cool 1970s celebrity wedding – and beyond.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, All Over Press.

GWEN STEFANI AND GAVIN ROSSDALE
Gwen Stefani started something of a trend at her 2002 wedding to Gavin Rossdale. In a dip-dyed pink and white gown by John Galliano at Christian Dior, Gwen kicked off a wave of pink wedding gowns, later favoured by celebs like Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel.

Jackie Kennedy & Aristotle Onassis and John Lennon & Yoko Ono, All Over Press.

JACKIE KENNEDY AND ARISTOTLE ONASSIS
Her marriage to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis in 1968, five years after the assassination of first husband JFK, put Jackie Kennedy – now O – in the spotlight once again. She chose a couture gown by her friend Valentino for her wedding. The dress was copied by designers across the world, bringing the Italian designer to new levels of international acclaim.

JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO
We would hardly expect Beatle John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono to have a traditional sort of wedding, so their 1969 wedding in Gibraltar saw them both in matching white – Yoko’s moddish miniskirt, hat and knee socks a perfect representation of the times.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, All Over Press.

KATE MIDDLETON AND PRINCE WILLIAM
In the run-up to 2011’s royal wedding, talk of the town centred on who might design Kate’s wedding dress. That honour went to Sarah Burton, then newly at the helm of Alexander McQueen who designed a show-stopping number that mixed all the heritage, elegance and modernity fit for a princess.

Jamie Hince and Kate Moss, All Over Press.

KATE MOSS AND JAMIE HINCE
Inspired by The Great Gatsby, supermodel Kate Moss asked her old friend John Galliano to whip up a gorgeous dress with all the decadence of the flapper era for her big day in 2011. Accompanied by a gaggle of flower girls, Kate and Jamie Hince looked every inch the ultimate dreamy rock ’n’ roll couple.

The brides Katy England and Kristen MvMenamy, All Over Press.

KATY ENGLAND AND BOBBY GILLESPIE
Katy England, the sometime stylist to Alexander McQueen, put that connection to good use when she persuaded him to design her dress for her wedding to Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream in 2006. The result was a candy-striped confection perfectly suited to one of the major movers and shakers of British fashion.

KRISTEN MCMENAMY AND MILES ALDRIDGE
Their 1997 wedding was the stuff of fashion legend: model Kristen McMenamy was walked down the aisle by Karl Lagerfeld to marry photographer Miles Aldridge with Naomi Campbell as a bridesmaid. The style press had a field day, and the bride wore Lagerfeld, of course.
