EXCLUSIVE: FOXES' NEW VIDEO
Singer-songwriter Foxes deals with an unfit mother and neglected brother in the video for her brand new single Feet Don’t Fail Me Now. Watch it first here.
26-year-old Foxes – real name Louisa Rose Allen – is fronting the latest Divided campaign and is about to release her eagerly-awaited second album this autumn. Feet Don’t Fail Me Now is the second single from the forthcoming album but the third song we’ve heard from the artist this summer, who was also featured on legendary producer and DJ Giorgio Moroder’s album Déjà vu. On Moroder’s album, Foxes is in very good company; superstars Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Charlie XCX and Sia are four of the other artists featured.
We asked Foxes six questions about the video, her songwriting, and working with H&M. Keep scrolling to get to know the artist better.
TELL US ABOUT THE VIDEO FOR FEET DON’T FAIL ME NOW!
“I
wrote the treatment while I was writing the track in January.
Initially I didn’t want to be featured in the video at all but, after
meeting James who plays the dancer, I felt like playing an older
sister would fit. I wanted the video to feel cinematic and tell a
short story; I play an older sister helping her brother believe in
himself, and it tells a story of a mother who isn’t always there for
them both because of her own demons."
"Aspects of the video relate to experiences I’ve had myself and other people might have had growing up.”
THE VIDEO IS DEALING WITH A PRETTY HEAVY SUBJECT. HOW COME YOU CHOSE
THIS THEME?
“I always had a strong visual idea for this track
and, working with the director, I was able to make the vision I had
into a reality. Even though the song is written about a [romantic]
relationship, I wanted to show that the song could relate to other
types of relationships too, which is why we chose to base this around
a mother and daughter instead.”
THE LYRICS TO THE SONG ARE ALSO QUITE SAD AND MELANCHOLIC. WHAT WERE
YOU THINKING ABOUT WHEN WRITING IT?
“I was writing about a
friend of mine who had struggled to leave an abusive relationship, but
I also had Feet Don’t Fail Me Now as a mantra that, in no
matter how bad any situation, I can count on myself to get through it.”
YOU’VE SAID THAT YOU ALWAYS WRITE MELANCHOLIC SONGS, AND THAT YOU
LIKE THEM TO BE HAPPY-SAD. DO YOU FIND IT MORE DIFFICULT TO WRITE
HAPPY SONGS?
“My lyrics are almost like a diary to me; I tend to
write about how I’m feeling and then the song comes from there.
Although some of my tracks feel sad, I like them to have a positive
message in them too. For example, Feet Don’t Fail Me Now is
about having inner strength and being able to get through any
situation by believing in yourself.”
YOU’RE STARRING IN A NEW H&M CAMPAIGN – TELL US ABOUT THE
EXPERIENCE! HOW WAS IT TO WORK WITH H&M?
“I grew up around
my mum being obsessed with fashion and vintage clothing so getting to
work with a massive company like H&M was an honour.”
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES FROM THE COLLECTION?
“I got to
design my own T-shirt for the collection which was really fun, but I’m
kind of obsessed with the shorts too.”
The Divided collection fronted by Foxes is released on 23rd July, and her forthcoming album is due out this autumn.
