This New York creative keeps it classy with a hint of the dark side.

Elegance seems to come easily to Lainy Hedaya, the creative behind Haute Inhabit. Whether she’s dressed up in an evening gown or wearing a simple, white men’s shirt, her natural poise, long dark hair and impeccable taste in jewellery always make her look like she’s on her way to somewhere very fabulous.

We caught up with Lainy Hedaya during her very hectic New York Fashion Week, and asked her to share some of her style magic with us.

WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?
”My Grandma. She’s always elegant.”

WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
”Moody and dark with some feminine touches.”

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER?
”I don’t really have a favourite per se, but there are some designers who I always love every single piece they make, like Haider Ackermann, Viktor and Rolf, and Proenza Schouler.”

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH?
”Miami Beach. I always look forward to plopping on a lounge chair and sleeping under an umbrella.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
”Nothing like a good New York bagel.”

IF YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR APARTMENT IN A HURRY, WHAT WOULD YOU GRAB?
”Chapstick. Nothing more annoying than dry lips.”

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO LOOK?
”I actually wear this every day: black high-waisted straight-leg cropped jeans and a men’s white shirt tucked in… possibly some low black heels and cool statement bag.”

WHY IS FASHION IMPORTANT?
”Humans live by emotions, and without fashion, we don’t have a way to show how we feel and who we are without using our words.”

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN HISTORY, WHAT FASHION ERA WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE IN?
”The early 1800s. I really like intense architecture in garments. My tailor always makes fun of me as the girl who buys the most ‘complicated pieces’. If it has horse hair and boning, I want it.”

WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU NEVER PART FROM?
”A leather jacket, duh!”

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?
”I wanted to create things. I was an artist/creative my whole childhood. And now my job is very creative from a business standpoint, and visual too. It’s a wonderful feeling.”
