THE BEAT GOES ON

Utilitarian, sporty and tailored – autumn’s menswear is all about a laidback and interestingly layered, street-savvy look. It’s a creative mix that puts the U – that is, You – in urban.

The street is the prime influence on autumn’s menswear, which sets out to capture the eclectic urbanism of the big city. Sportswear is offset by tailoring, while utilitarian pieces are the basis for the essentially laidback vibe. Swinging from hip-hop to preppy, and from mod to Justin Bieber, it’s a style that defies definition.

A sharply cut coat is worn over a grey marl hoodie while a black blouson is paired with a long, checked flannel shirt and tailored trousers – the mix is the real story here, but there is also an elongated feel to the layering.

Our story was shot by Canadian photographer Amy Troost, who lives in New York and is a regular contributor to magazines such as i-D and The Last Magazine. With her slick – yet honest – style, she was the perfect choice for making the guys (and girl!) look both real and dapper.
