Camp Cali girls: Meet Louise
This French skater girl is the perfect combo of California cool and Paris chic.
”I learned to surf when I was 13. I used to watch films of Kelly Slater and be like ‘oh, I want to do that’. I love how close you are to nature when you surf, how you’re out in the ocean, all by yourself. You forget about everything, you’re just one with nature. But I didn’t live next to the beach, obviously, growing up in Paris. So I decided to pick up a skateboard. Skate is like surf – only easier. You just grab your board and find a street. But the feeling, the adrenaline, is the same.
I used to feel like the only skate and surf girl in Paris. People would give me funny looks when they saw me skate in the streets, like ‘what are you doing?’ But I guess it is getting bigger there because now when I go back, I always see a bunch of skater girls in the streets. It’s like, wow!
I moved to California five years ago. I love the atmosphere here: people are smiling; it is more relaxed than in Europe. It has a surfy vibe to it!
My perfect summer day starts with a surf session in the morning, then I hang with friends and have a nice lunch, skateboard in the afternoon and then a surf session at sunset. Yeah, the perfect summer day starts and ends with surf.”
