BEAUTY SOS: MONOLID MAKEUP
When it comes to monolids, traditional makeup rules go out the window. Read on how to make the most of that wonderful canvas – hint: it involves rewarding work around the lashline.
WHAT HAVE YOU GOT?
Beautiful, almond-shaped eyes with monolids.
SO WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE?
Without a noticeable crease in my eyelid, I have no idea what the ground rules are when it comes to eye makeup!
HERE'S WHAT TO DO…
No matter what look you’re after, eyeshadow primer is key, since you don’t want things sliding around or creasing. Always apply over entire lid. Next, a soft blending brush is your secret weapon. Without that demarcation between the eye and brow bone, any unblended patch of colour on the lid will look unnatural, so remember to blend away any harsh lines until the end of time. You’ll also want to become inseparable from long-lasting gel eyeliner. It adds amazing definition and tight-lining will make your lashes look absolutely voluminous. Finally, waterproof mascara holds a curl better – and is a must to “open-up” those gorgeous peepers you have!
WANT MORE EXPERT ADVICE?
Bottom shadow and liner are always a good idea, says top makeup artist Hung Vanngo. “Keep the intensity mostly on the upper lid, but use a slightly softer shade on the bottom lid, close to the lashline, to help create a more open shape.” If you want to go low-key for daytime, skip the shadow but still line the bottom of your eyes.
HOW ABOUT SOME CELEBRITY INSPIRATION?
Actresses Lucy Liu and Jamie Chung are great examples of monolid beauties, but to really see how different eye makeup trends translate to those almond eyes, look to supermodels Liu Wen, Fei Fei Sun and Chiharu Okunugi on the catwalk every chance you can get.
