Marie Jedig is our Scandinavian summer crush

Romantic vibes with a healthy dose of retro coolness.

Danish blogger Marie Jedig’s style is an enviable mix of designer vintage, on-trend high street finds and seasonal catwalk hits. It is all about contrasts, she says; pairing feminine silhouettes with cool accessories or worn-out denim.

We invited Marie to go wild in our Copenhagen showroom. The result: a summery take on the new Scandi style – personal, playful and effortless.

WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
”I like to play with contrasts and combine new items with vintage luxury pieces. In the fast fashion industry where trends go in and out on an everyday basis, I think that it’s important to build a wardrobe that allows you to personalise trends and make them your own.”

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER?
[Céline’s] Phoebe Philo for creating minimalist yet noticeable design, always with an artistic edge, and Nicolas Ghesquière [at Louis Vuitton] for his ability to revolutionise trends with a great portion of coolness included.”

WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?
”I do not have a specific style icon, but a lot of Danish girls are doing a great job with their personal style without overdoing trends nor giving up comfort over fashion.”

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH?
”My apartment in Copenhagen. ‘There's no place like home’ is such a cliché, but my home is where I relax – either by having a cup of coffee on my French balcony, or drinking wine with my friends, dancing to '90s tunes in my kitchen.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
”I'm a complete sucker for all kinds of pasta and I absolutely LOVE Italian food. My friends and I went to Milan some time ago and we joked about just going there for the food. The funny thing was that it was no joke at all. We ate at this restaurant specialising in truffles on our last day and I felt I had died and gone to pasta heaven.”

IF YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR APARTMENT IN A HURRY, WHAT WOULD YOU GRAB?
”Probably my Mulberry Bayswater bag. It was a gift from my parents after my sister suffered from a long period of illness. My parents gave it to me as a symbol for me taking care of her through the progress. It means a lot to me.”

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO LOOK?
”Jeans, sneakers and a knit or a top, depending on the season. Copenhagen is definitely the place to wear sneakers, since we bike around town most of the time. I’m a fan too. Jeans are my all-time go-to item because they're so easy to wear and to style.”

WHY IS FASHION IMPORTANT?
”Fashion is a way of communicating and showing aesthetic standards. Like art, theatre, music and movies, fashion and style reflect the society and culture, and affect all people in some way, also when not intended.”

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN HISTORY, WHAT FASHION ERA WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE IN?
”The '60s and '70s were great because there was a real fashion revolution in that short period of time. The uptight ‘uniform’ and standard ideas of clothing developed into style and people suddenly began using fashion as a political statement.”

WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU NEVER PART FROM?
”My flared, floral-printed denim jeans from Chanel. I saw them in a magazine some years ago and fell completely in love with them. When I was in Paris last year with my best friend, I found them in a Chanel flagship store and I just had to buy them, although they were sliiiiightly over budget. Because I'm a tiny 163 cm girl, they had to fit them to my size overnight so that I could bring them home with me. They're really something special and the fit is amazing.”

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?
”Something new every day – which is kind of what actually happened. I've been encouraged by my family to follow my dreams and I've always been told that I could become everything I wanted. As a child, I had a great interest in theatre, and I've been doing music ever since I was 9 years old. I've always known that I wanted to do something creative and that I wanted to find some kind of platform to express myself, but I never thought that I would end up in the fashion industry.”

WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY FASHION PLEASURE?
”Looking at vintage websites every night before going to sleep. It's suuuch a bad habit because there are so many temptations there!”

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET?
”I really never get starstruck, but if I bumped into George Clooney on the street I would probably die.”

WHAT DO YOU NEED RIGHT NOW?
”All this talk of truffle pasta makes me need exactly that right now, haha. Wardrobe-wise, I always feel like I need a new pair of shoes.”

WHAT IS YOUR LATEST BEAUTY DISCOVERY?
”Hexomedine, a product I buy in French pharmacies whenever I'm in Paris! It's a miracle cure for upcoming spots.”
