Nadia Aboulhosn on life-changing outfits and perfect brows
Blogger/model Nadia Aboulhosn tells us about that one time a teenage girl made her cry.
We have been in love with Nadia Aboulhosn and her style ever since she started blogging six years ago. So when we put together a team of awesome girls to star in our swimwear editorial, Nadia was at the top of our wish list. In between shots, we sat down with the model/designer/blogger to hear about her summer plans, swimwear preferences and how it feels to touch people’s lives just by posting your outfit of the day.
”When I started blogging it was just a way to express myself. I would just literally wear anything that made me feel good at the moment. Then I started to see that it was affecting people, and giving women something to relate to instead of just the typical beauty standards. It made me want to keep on going, keep breaking boundaries.”
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE?
”I do. The coolest thing about blogging is how you’re able to reach an audience. You never realise how big the internet is, the amount of people you can touch and inspire. I just had a meet and greet a couple of weeks ago, and a mum came in with her 16-year-old daughter and said ‘You changed [my daughter’s] life, the way she feels about herself…’ It made me cry!”
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT YOUR BODY?
”I can’t say my ankles because it sounds really weird, but I really love my ankles! (laughs) And I love my legs. I would say my legs. And my eyebrows, but they're not really a body part!”
HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE WITH THE WAY YOU
”Yes I have, since I was a kid. I think it has a lot to do with parenting. And also, I am part Lebanese, and my body isn’t out of the normal of those beauty standards. I have never really felt like an outcast. It wasn’t until I got into this career that I felt I was different. No one really pointed it out until my blog became popular.”
SO HAS MODELLING CHANGED YOUR PERCEPTION OF YOUR BODY?
”Yeah, I’ll pick at myself for certain things that I wouldn’t before. Like, ‘I want a bigger upper lip’ – but then I see someone with lip injections and I am like, wait a second, I am so cute already… (laughs) I don’t want to get caught up in that whirlwind.”
WHAT IS YOUR END GAME?
”The goal isn’t to be a model – my main goal is to be a designer. But I can’t draw whatsoever! So I try to build a presence, and then convince brands to collaborate with me and let me design for them. So far, it works.”
I always want to be comfortable at the beach – it’s hot, you’re sweating and you just want to feel good.
BESIDES THE TWO-PIECE YOU’RE WEARING
TODAY, WHAT KIND OF SWIMWEAR ARE YOU INTO?
”I am really in to one-pieces right now. With a plunged neckline, or a racer back. I always want to be comfortable at the beach – it’s hot, you’re sweating and you just want to feel good.”
WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE SUMMER?
”I grew up in Florida, and the beaches there are stunning. We used to have barbecues at the beach, and they're probably my favourite summer memories. I want to go back home for 4th July this year. And I want to go to Ireland, too. I haven’t been, but I heard it’s amazing.”
