Little People in High Fashion

Milk Magazine brings H&M’s most fashionable collection for children to its natural habitat.

Together with Milk Magazine and H&M, photographer Fanny Latour-Lambert captured the H&M Studio A/W16 collection for kids on the French countryside, far from busy cities and streets, where the imagination is allowed to run wild. The collection draws inspiration from fairy tales, folklore and fantasy, and many items in it will be found in the Studio collection for adults as well. So don’t’ worry – you’ll look as good as your little friends.

Milk Magazine talked to Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s head of design, about the hotly anticipated collection.

WHAT WERE THE SOURCES OF INSPIRATION FOR THIS INITIAL H&M STUDIO KIDS COLLECTION?
“The AW 2016 collection drew on H&M Studio’s collection for women. It is a very folkloric universe full of fantasy, influenced by stories like Alice in Wonderland and Swedish fairy tales illustrated by John Bauer, with accessories and prints that turn clothes into must-have outfits.”

WHAT ARE THE KEY LOOKS?
“The embroidered lace jacket, worn with a matching ared skirt, or the gold embroidered velvet cape, I’d say. Volume plays a major role, as can be seen in the smocks with billowing sleeves, the poncho blouse and velvet cape. Dresses are fun and fanciful: pink prints, long-sleeved white pinafore dresses edged in lace, full skirts trimmed with lace. Leather jackets and trousers add rock star appeal, while the belted grey coat, striped blazer, or jacket and trousers with turn-ups make for child-friendly fashions.”

The collection hits stores and online on 8 September.
