7 in-flight beauty essentials we never travel without
While they whisk us to fab destinations, planes are beauty agony. These few hero products will see you through.
Flying with a full face of makeup is not great for the skin considering you’re enclosed in an environment without any fresh air. So once you’ve settled into your seat, cleanse your face with these wipes (which are alcohol-free so won’t dry you out even more!) and then moisturise. Just before you land, cleanse again to get rid of any grime and do your makeup as necessary.
QUICK TIP: Make sure to pack a hydrating mist, too – spray liberally throughout your flight to stave off dull-looking skin upon landing.
RELAXING PERFUME OIL
Travelling can be stressful, we know. Might we suggest a relaxing fragrance to have on board with you? With a warm vetiver finish, the intoxicating scent of this roll-on perfume oil is the perfect antidote to any worries. It also contains organic jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, rosemary extract and sunflower oil.
QUICK TIP: Apply at the pulse points, where the blood vessels are – heat is what activates perfume. Don’t rub, but pat into place.
There’s something about being on a plane that makes you feel particularly icky, especially on a long-haul flight. Needless to say, you want to feel fresh so swipe on this aluminium-free deodorant (with soothing and softening organic aloe vera) before you board and then again, if necessary, just before you land.
QUICK TIP: Take a moment and apply the stuff properly. Be sure to give the entire underarm area a uniform coat of product for best results.
Airplanes are severely dehydrating. So while drinking plenty of water is always a good idea, so is a nice, substantial layer of lip balm. Slather it on at the beginning of the flight, re-apply as necessary during and definitely once again just before you disembark – you’ll have perfectly moisturised lips and a subtle sheen, too.
QUICK TIP: You can also apply the lip balm to any other random place you find dry skin: cuticles, fingertips, knees, toes, etc.
The movement of your head against the material of the head rest is bound to tangle your gorgeous hair and create static like crazy. To keep things looking chic at all times, make sure to take a wide-tooth comb with you. It’s easier to tote around than a huge, bristled hair brush!
QUICK TIP: Always start at the tips when combing out tangles and then move up to the roots – this prevents you from damaging the hair shaft and tearing out any hair unnecessarily.
You still want to look pulled-together once you step off that plane, but given the tiny seat you’re crammed into or the terrible lighting in the bathroom, you’ll need something multi-tasking and just really easy to apply. Enter BB cream – it’ll even out skin tone, conceal redness and any other imperfections and moisturise all in one go.
QUICK TIP: You’ll probably want to use your fingers for this so make sure they’re clean! Apply a thin layer first (patting it on) and apply another layer in places you might need more coverage (under the eyes, around the nose).
TINTED BROW GEL
Minimal yet chic makeup is the way forward when gliding off the plane and groomed brows are the quickest way to get you there. This tinted fibre gel will enhance, define and fix brows into place with just a few strokes. Concentrate on the arches for the most natural look.
QUICK TIP: Don’t forget to pack a small mirror in your carry-on just in case you don’t get a chance to do your makeup in the bathroom.
