The Leather Jacket

Possibly the coolest garment in history, the leather jacket is as modern as ever. This is how we style it.

The durable material made the leather jacket the perfect choice for soldiers in both the first and second world wars. Maybe already then, the lords of war also saw its real selling point: the fact that the leather jacket looks dangerously cool.

The 1930’s biker gangs confirmed the leather jacket’s status as fashion’s bad boy, an image that peaked in the 1953 film The Wild One, starring Marlon Brando.

Since then, the leather jacket has been a loved staple for almost every subculture in fashion history, from mods to punks and gangster rappers.

”The leather jacket is the perfect investment, you can style it in so many ways”, says The Item stylist Columbine Smille. ”Personally, I prefer it worn together with a tailored suit trouser, and simple and relaxed garments. Add a good pair of leather sandals for an updated, cool and modern look.”
