Heart to Heart: The Mother & Baby

When a brand-new person enters the world, feelings are all over the place: excitement, pride, guilt, and above all — love. The new mother Chili and little baby Kurt get to know each other day by day.

TAKE US BACK TO WHEN YOU TWO FIRST MET!
“It was 28th September last year. I was one week past my due date and had been in labour for almost two days when the birth finally started. It wasn’t dramatic, a school book delivery really, but to me it was such an amazing experience. Giving birth is so cool! I even ate my placenta afterwards. I had it prepared into capsules that I ate the weeks after the delivery.”

“I have to be honest though: this love at first sight you hear so much about, how you’re supposed to feel this love that is deeper than anything you’ve ever felt already when you get the baby up on your chest; that didn’t happen to me. And that has to be ok!”

“The first weeks were a shock. The breastfeeding wasn't working, the feeling of inadequacy, of not knowing if we were doing everything right. And also the guilt for not having all those happy, loving feelings.”

“But then something started growing, and this love that really is bigger than anything came over me. Now I really do feel all this great love you imagine when you’re expecting a baby.”

DEFINE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THREE WORDS.
“Love, laughter, tears.”

TELL US ABOUT A DETAIL WITH YOUR SON THAT YOU SECRETLY LOVE.
“I love how he’s already such a distinct mix between his father and me. He has this happiness about him that’s clearly from his father, and this determination that’s clearly from me. It’s his way or no way.”

I love how he’s already such a distinct mix between his father and me.

WHEN DOES HE DRIVE YOU CRAZY?
“When he wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to play. You’re so tired you don’t know what to do, but you still can’t be angry with him when he laughs and wants to hang out.”

TELL US ABOUT A MEMORY THAT YOU KEEP CLOSE TO YOUR HEART.
“I keep all the firsts in a special place within me: the first time he laughed, the first time he turned around from his back to his belly on the floor, our first Christmas together. I try to stay in the moment and collect all these small memories, saving them as treasures to go back to when parenthood is at its hardest.”
