Coco Baudelle wears this season’s best coat
Actress and screenwriter Coco Baudelle is the girl of our autumn dreams. Who better to model our dream coat and absolute must-buy of the season?
Born in Montreal to a French mother and a Madagascan father and now settled down in New York City’s East Village, Coco Baudelle has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi about her. That it-factor that separates us mere mortals from the girls who have the entire Internet obsessing over them. She is one of those creative smart girls who sort of ‘fell into modelling’; in Coco’s case it was a campaign for everyone’s favourite beauty brand Glossier that cemented her it-girl status.
In real life, Coco Baudelle comes off refreshingly normal. She has a bubbly laughter, a crooked tooth and immediately bonds with everyone on set. In front of the camera, she transforms into this iconic beauty, perfectly owning the chunky, belted wool coat she’s wearing.
”I love tight tops and really big, simple coats. They usually form nice shapes on me,” she says and continues to tell us that ‘good fabric and simplicity’ is what makes a piece perfect in her eyes. Fittingly, we’re all about good fabric and simplicity. In a series on this season’s Premium Essentials – wardrobe must-haves meant to last a lifetime – we have photographed five women who all are our muse of the season, each of them wearing an essential piece we can’t live without in AW17.

When Coco Baudelle is not in front of the camera, acting or modelling, she spends her days writing.
”I started writing a feature film about a year ago. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. This autumn I’m going to find a house in the woods and work on the script until I have a first draft.”
WHAT KIND OF STORIES DO YOU WANT TO TELL?
”All I want to talk about is love. It’s everything to me.”
WHAT IS ESSENTIAL TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO STYLE?
”I think mystery. Something that is unexpected. It can be a nostalgic fuchsia polish, a little rip in the fabric, a light rose scent.”
DO YOU HAVE A DEFINING STYLE MOMENT?
”A friend of mine back in Montreal had access to this gigantic storage full of theatre clothes and tons of incredible old pieces that were just sitting there, untouched. They all belonged to an old man I never got to meet. One night my friend let me in and I spent hours trying things on. I felt like there was so much more to life than I knew, and I think that planted a seed in me.”
WHO IS YOUR MUSE?
”Right now, Kate and Laura Mulleavy who design Rodarte but also directed their first feature film, Woodshock. I am beyond inspired by their work. It feels so dark and light, so true.”
WHAT IS BEAUTY TO YOU?
”When I’m amazed at something, I know I’m around it. It’s hard to define because it’s in everything, but it’s fragility, bountifulness, strength, shades and power.”
The eyelet belt is what makes this coat cool
DESIGNER CHATARINA FORSETH
Classic yet on-trend, our dream coat this season features big, roomy pockets and oversized lapels. ”The eyelet belt is what makes this coat cool,” says designer Chatarina Forseth, who wanted to make a coat that ‘would look cool and elegant on anyone’.
We rule success – 5'2" and très petite Coco Baudelle doesn’t look at all overwhelmed by the heavy fabric and slightly oversized style.
”It’s a little roomy, but as soon as you put the belt on you get a very elegant silhouette,” says Chatarina Forseth.
The coat Coco is wearing is part of the Premium Essentials Capsule collection, launching exclusively online October 5.

BEAUTY ROUTINE: ”Face oil, hair oil and body oil. That’s all I really need. It makes everything else easy!”
