How to keep your hair shiny and healthy-looking in summer
Now that the sun is out in full force, you’ll no doubt want to: a) cut down on hairstyling time to get out there and b) protect your tresses while you’re at it.
UNDONE DONE HAIR
Consider this the no-makeup makeup of hair. While you artfully apply products, this is all about emphasising the natural texture of your tresses for a “your hair, but better” look. After washing with a gentle shampoo and conditioner, apply a detangler, like the KNOT A PROBLEM PRIMER SPRAY, through the damp hair and comb through. If you like a little fullness for your roots, spritz in a root booster – we love the THE THICK OF IT VOLUME SPRAY. If not, reach directly for the texturising cream (DEFINING MOMENT TEXTURE PASTE) and work thoroughly through the hair, concentrating on the ends. And now here’s the important part: just get up and do something else because air-drying is key. Once dry, you’ll have that cool-girl, effortless hair. And see what happened there? Especially ideal for the summer months, your undone done hair has saved you oodles of time for other fun things!
While many of us these days are totally dependent on dry shampoo, have you ever considered leave-in conditioner? The reason being that it’s much easier to keep your hair in tip-top condition than it is to repair any damage that has already been done. At its simplest, leave-in conditioner gives hair extra moisture so it can ward off dryness, fraying and breakage – in other words, help you achieve incredibly soft, healthy hair day after day. But it can also be a quick pick-me-up in between washes, revive yesterday’s styling and ease any frizz without any greasiness. Just remember to build slowly, starting with a little bit from the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair so you don’t end up with a do weighed down by products.
Hands up if you love the look of shiny, silky hair? That enviable gloss where light bounces off it like crazy. Yeah, us, too. And while strong arms, a straightening iron and a few drops of serum seem like the obvious solution, there are other ways to get glossy hair. For instance, when blow-drying, blow dry down the length of hair, not underneath it. Not only will the hair lay flatter, it’ll also be softer and shinier. And put that cool button to use. When your hair is about 80% dry, continue with the cool air to seal the hair cuticle and fix your style in place. Plus: more shine! Also, consider cutting down on the number of times you shampoo in a week. Over-shampooing strips the hair of its natural oils, the very thing you need for glossy hair. While this isn’t a quick fix, you’ll see the results soon enough.
If you are looking for a shortcut to glossy hair – spray some GLOSS IT OVER FINISHING SPRAY on a powder brush, and lightly swipe it over your hair. This trick will give your hair just the right amount of shine. We are also in love with the ON WITH THE GLOW STYLING CREAM. Apply in wet hair before blow-drying.
