How to rock jeans and t-shirts like Michaela Wissén
The Swedish photographer styles the ultimate go-to look in a far from basic way.
We sent an analogue camera, a questionnaire and a return envelope to the Swedish-born, LA-based photographer and style star Michaela Wissén. Keep swiping to see her take on fashion's most iconic look, and to find out how a half-eaten hot dog ended up in her handbag.
TELL US ABOUT THE H&M LOOKS YOU'RE WEARING.
"I decided to go for two different looks that represent different moments in my week. For a fun weekend look I’m a big fan of co-ords – which also make getting dressed a breeze. So, I created my own with a pair of white-pink denims and a matching, fitted tee."
"The second look is my go-to look every day of the week. You can't go wrong with an oversized white tee, high-waisted denims and a pair of booties. This look takes you from day to play in a minute!"
WHAT DEFINES THE IDEAL PAIR OF DENIMS?
"Comfort is key. My ideal denims are high-waisted, fitted on top, and easy to move in."
WHO'S YOUR STYLE ICON?
"It may be cliché, but the hype proves to be true. It's Kate Moss, in all her nonchalant-chic glory."
WHAT ARE THE PRACTICAL CHALLENGES OF GETTING DRESSED IN L.A.?
"The ever so indecisive weather. I can wake up to rather nippy weather and just want to throw on a cosy sweater, some distressed denims and a pair of sneakers. As the day progresses, I start shedding layers and usually end up changing into a dress or a pair of denim shorts. As the night comes around, I find myself throwing on what I started my day with once again. It’s all about layering and keeping a bag of random clothes at hand in that car for quick weather changes."
WHAT'S THE COOLEST THING YOU'VE DONE IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
"My editorial shoot with Elle USA! A team of twenty people showed up at my house in Calabasas to shoot me, and write a lengthy article about me as a photographer. Once it came out I was featured on a billboard in NYC, which was so unexpected and amazing. My face was as big as a five-storey building!"
WHAT'S THE WEIRDEST PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU HAVE IN YOUR WARDROBE?
"I would have to say my random and sentimental collection of logo T-shirts from my high school sports teams. Don’t have it in me to throw them away and don’t have it in me to rock them either."
WHAT'S YOUR BEST STYLING TRICK?
"Less is always more. Whenever I feel uncomfortable, it's usually because I’m trying too hard. Strip down, stick to something basic and pair it with something fun."
WHAT'S THE BEST BEAUTY TRICK YOU'VE EVER LEARNED?
"Advice from my mother, who’s 60 but looks 40! Wear sunscreen, and moisturise every day, no matter where you are."
IF YOU COULD ONLY EAT ONE MEAL EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE – WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"Pasta in all shapes and sizes."
WHAT'S THE WEIRDEST THING YOU'VE EVER FOUND IN YOUR BAG AFTER A NIGHT OUT?
"A half-eaten hot dog. It’s a late night ritual – sometimes I eat it, sometimes I don’t, sometimes I leave it half eaten in my bag. It's always a nice surprise the day after."
