How to wear MOSCHINO [tv] H&M like AMIAYA
Meet the Tokyo style icons, creative directors and 'twin-fluencers' that are making waves on the international fashion scene.
Everything AMIAYA wears is a statement. In cropped jackets, eye-catching accessories, fun prints, and the most colorful garments you'll ever see, the Japanese style icons are on a mission to bring more color, more prints and more love to the world.
WHAT'S YOUR APPROACH TO STYLE?
"We always have playfulness and color on our minds. Volume, materials and accessories are crucial elements too," the sisters say about their unique style.
YOU MODEL, HAVE A BAND, A FASHION BRAND AND A MASSIVE SOCIAL PLATFORM. IS THERE ONE FIELD YOU LOVE MORE?
"We love it all. It's so much fun expressing our world by creating things and working and putting passion into everything we do."
When we got older we separated our wardrobes but ended up buying the exact same clothes and shoes anyway!
DID YOU SHARE WARDROBES GROWING UP? OR WERE THERE STRICT RULES BETWEEN THE TWO OF YOU?
"We tried different methods – first shared, then separate, then shared again. As kids we would often get into fights about who wears what and had to play rock-paper-scissors to reach a settlement. When we got older we separated our wardrobes, but ended up buying the exact same clothes and shoes anyway!"
Based in Tokyo, the identical twins are shaking up a fashion storm, two extravagant outfits at a time. We followed them to their favorite spots in New York, while wearing their favorite pieces from the hotly anticipated MOSCHINO [tv] H&M collection, styled with key pieces from H&M's fall and winter collections.
Dubbed "the most MOSCHINO collection ever," the anticipated line features an array of cartoon couture, hip hop-worthy bling and statement accessories. For the more modest dressers who want to wear the collection at any time and day, AMIAYA has some advice that's well worth taking into consideration before deciding what items to get your hands on.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIPS FOR WEARING THE COLLECTION IN A MORE CASUAL WAY?
"Most items in the collection are so strong and so out there, so to incorporate them into our everyday wardrobes we like to layer the pieces over monochrome bases – preferably an all-red or pink base or an all-leopard one."
WHAT'S YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE MOSCHINO [TV] H&M COLLECTION?
"We think it is so individual and we're fascinated because it reflects the brand well. There are so many details and such passion has been put into it!"
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ITEM IN THE COLLECTION?
"The pink fur coat! Pink is our favorite color, and the chain details on it make it edgy, cute and cool all at once."
"New York has so much energy, and people are so open and liberal here." AMIAYA's homes and hearts are in Tokyo, but they keep returning to the city that never sleeps for both work and leisure. They share their top New York picks here.
104 Bayard Street, New York
"A super cute restaurant on the border of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. It serves non-alcoholic drinks, fish tacos, papas bravas and other colorful and delicious California-meets-Latin dishes."
450 West 15th Street, New York
"It's one of the city's best galleries and cultural spaces. In 2017 they had an exhibition by Trouble Andrew's GucciGhost project that was truly captivating."
115 Macdougal Street, New York
"A landmark live music venue and bar in Greenwich Village. We have great memories of seeing shows together with our local friends here."
METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
1000 5th Avenue, New York
"The first museum we ever visited in New York. We were so inspired because we went to their 2013 'PUNK: Chaos to Couture' exhibition, and we love punk."
THE LUDLOW HOTEL
180 Ludlow Street, New York
"We stayed here during the latest New York Fashion Week and fell in love with the interior, the atmosphere – and the view from the hotel room windows."
672 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn
"A high-quality vintage store that has fantastic clothes – especially dresses – that are really rare and difficult to find in the right sizes elsewhere."
"Our cosmetics, mobile phones, wallets and keys, of course, but we always carry extra accessories with us as well, so we can update our outfits during the day depending on how our moods change. Most of the time we bring a camera along because we love capturing moments, people and the city as we go."
When emptying AMIAYA's padlock-inspired MOSCHINO [tv] H&M bag, you'll find nothing unexpected, except that all their everyday items come in a kaleidoscope of color with quirky details – because why choose to blend in when you can stand out?
