When I’m With Her: Grethe, Sophie & Stella

When I’m With Her: Grethe, Sophie & Stella

On Valentine’s Day last year, Grethe drove her daughter Sophie to the hospital when baby Stella was due. Today the three of them share a bond that builds on the magic of seeing your daughter become a mother herself, and the aspiration to walk in the footsteps of your own mother.

TAKE US BACK TO WHEN YOU FIRST MET STELLA.
“The last months of Sophie’s pregnancy with Stella, Sophie and her husband were staying at our apartment because theirs was going through renovations. It’s Sophie’s first child and our first grandchild and we were all so excited. I even drove them to the hospital when it was time.”

“Seeing my grandchild for the first time was incredible, a miracle really, but to me it was even more incredible to see my daughter take on the awesome responsibility of motherhood herself. It was a beautiful moment.”

DEFINE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THREE WORDS.
“Adventurous, caring and loving.”

TELL US ABOUT A DETAIL WITH YOUR MOM YOU SECRETLY LOVE.
“She’s a power mom who’s able to do it all. She hasn’t just encouraged me and my brothers, but she’s facilitated us in achieving our dreams and passions. It’s really hard to be a parent, and I love the way she has been — and is — a parent to us. I aspire to be to Stella what my mom has been to me.”

WHEN DOES SOPHIE DRIVE YOU CRAZY?
“She never drives me crazy. We had a tough time for a little bit when she was a teenager, and her dad sat down with the two of us and asked her ‘who’s your biggest fan?’ ‘Who makes sure you do this?’ Who does this for you?’ And she answered ‘mom.’ Since then we’ve appreciated each other so much.”

I aspire to be to Stella what my mom has been to me.

TELL US ABOUT A MEMORY WITH YOUR MOM YOU HOLD CLOSE TO YOUR HEART.
“We have so many, but one that I’ll never forget actually happened on Mother’s Day during my last days in college.”

“I got a terrible stomach flu, it’s still the most sick I’ve ever been, and had to go to the hospital. So I called my mom who was hours away, and she dropped everything she was doing to be with me. It was also the weekend I was moving out of my dorm room, but I wasn’t able to do anything because I was so sick. So she went out on campus, and brought a bunch of people up to my dorm to carry and pack all my things into the car. It’s just so telling of the person she is — determined, social, loving, and yeah, really great at making things happen.”
