Avicii: “There is a lot more for me to do in music”
He’s 26 and on his final tour. We got a minute of the superstar DJ’s time to talk about post-touring plans, happy places and his new collaboration with H&M.
This past spring Avicii – or Tim Bergling as his real name is – penned a letter on his website declaring that this was going to be his final tour. Now he’s performing his last shows on the Won’t Be Right Back-tour and is excited to start a new chapter in his career.
YOU’RE 26 AND ON YOUR FAREWELL TOUR. WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT IT?
“There is not really much about touring that I will miss except seeing my fans. But I have done it so much and without a proper break so it’s really hard for me at this point to say what I’m going to miss. Other than the fans of course.”
WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTER THIS? WHERE WILL YOU LIVE?
“I don’t know where I’m going to live after I’m done touring actually, and I don’t really know what I’m going to do. I think I will take some time off to really figure out what I want to do. I usually get really obsessive with most things I do, and with that in mind try to find something that I can invest myself one hundred percent in without hitting a wall.”
WHEN YOU STARTED OUT, WHAT WERE YOU DREAMING OF CAREER-WISE?
“My biggest dream was probably to make it as a DJ and producer at any capacity, I didn't have any major ambition when I started out. That was just something that grew along with the music and my abilities in the studio. The more I learned about how to work with all the different programs in the studio and how to get familiar with melodies, the more my ambition grew.”
HAVE YOU ACHIEVED EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO ACHIEVE IN MUSIC?
“I don’t think it’s possible to achieve everything you want in music and that’s why it's such a good hobby. I think I've achieved everything I wanted when it comes to any type of recognition and stuff like that, but there are still so many things within music that I haven’t explored yet. There is a lot more for me to do in music.”
WHERE ARE YOU HAPPIEST? WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL CONTENT?
“At this moment I’m happiest when I get some time off and get to spend it with my friends. Kind of what I’m doing this summer. Friends and family are what make me feel content.”
FOR THIS TOUR, YOU’VE TEAMED UP WITH H&M TO CREATE A SMALL COLLECTION. HOW DID THE COLLABORATION COME ABOUT?
“Growing up in Sweden, H&M has obviously been one of my country's biggest brands and a national pride, so when they approached me it sounded like a really fun project!”
WHAT ITEMS IN THE COLLECTION ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITES?
“I think I like the beach bags the most, they remind me of the old Winter Music Conference in Miami!”
The collection is sold in selected H&M stores and at Avicii’s “Won’t Be Right Back” shows.
