How to get the Kenzo x H&M beauty look
It’s all about accentuating your most defining features.
The Kenzo x H&M collection is full of unique pieces in vivid colours and eclectic prints. To accompany the excitement of the clothing, makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench created a natural look that enhanced the dancers’ and models’ most defining features. Since the collection itself is all about celebrating individuality, a beauty look highlighting individuality in the models’ is definitely the Kenzo way to go.
H&M Magazine sat down with Isamaya Ffrench, who’s also one of the collection’s ambassadors, minutes before the show kicked off in New York.
TELL US ABOUT THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE LOOK!
“There’s not really inspiration — it’s more of a feeling. We want the dancers and the models to convey a positive, happy and strong feeling on the runway.”
WHAT REQUESTS HAVE KENZO’S HUMBERTO LEON AND CAROL LIM HAD FOR THE LOOK?
“They wanted everybody to look interesting and unique. There are so many different races and ages in the show, so it’s nice to show and celebrate each person’s individuality.”
HOW IS THE LOOK MADE?
“It’s a simple and natural look since the cast is so diverse and because there’s enough going on in the clothes already. We want everybody to be as individual as possible so we made them look how they are. For example – if they have bushy eyebrows we’ve exaggerated that and if they have pale eyebrows we’ve made them really pale.”
HOW CAN WE COPY THE LOOK?
“Look at yourself and define what makes you individual and really accentuate that – accentuate the beauty of your own individuality. The most important thing is moisturised skin and brushed eyebrows.”
WHAT PRODUCTS HAVE YOU USED?
“We’ve used a mix of foundation and concealers to make everyone’s skin look really healthy and flawless. Then we’ve worked with mascara, brow mascaras and brow gels to bring them out and make them thicker. On some of the dancers we’ve taken down the brows instead, using light concealers on them to make them even lighter. We’ve used cheek contour on some models to accentuate their cheeks.”
THE COLLECTION IS REALLY COLOURFUL AND VIBRANT. WHAT BEAUTY LOOK GOES BEST WITH THAT?
“You can go either way – there are no rules! Do whatever you want [laughs].”
