A French take on office chic
Paris fashion blogger Kenza Sadoun El Glaoui does officewear the cool way.
Kenza Sadoun El Glaoui might claim to be a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, but she doesn’t shy away from the occasional dress-up. When H&M Magazine asked her to select and style some of her H&M favourites, the result was a chic and bold new season statement. These looks clearly mean business – but not in a boring way.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER?
”I really like Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White. I followed him years ago, when he was a DJ. I love how he has succeed in introducing streetwear into the world of luxury.”
WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?
”I don’t really have one because I’m often inspired by anonymous people, from a photo on the internet or someone in a Paris café. But if I had to name only one woman, I would say Bianca Jagger. I love the way she interprets masculine clothing while staying so charming and elegant.”
WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
”Relaxed, for sure. I wear jeans almost every day. But I always like to add a touch of something more chic, like a pair of beautiful earrings or a pretty handbag.”
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH?
”Ios, a tiny Greek island that I have been going to every summer since I was born. It’s part of the Cyclades islands, just opposite Santorini.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
”It’s so hard to choose! Naturally, I would say Moroccan cuisine, because of my double culture.
I love Dafina. It’s a Jewish Moroccan dish – not really beautiful to look at, but delicious. It is composed of beef, rice, chick peas, potatoes and eggs, and takes over 24 hours to prepare.”
IF YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR APARTMENT IN A HURRY, WHAT WOULD YOU GRAB?
”My computer. Because my whole life is on it: my childhood photos that I made sure to scan one by one, my work, my contacts, etc. I am not very attached to material things, on the other hand, I am to memories...”
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO LOOK?
”High-waisted jeans, a pair of boots, a cotton t-shirt. Big statement earrings and a jacket – like a bomber or a trench coat.”
WHY IS FASHION IMPORTANT?
”Clothes are a second skin. They allow people to affirm their identity and to reveal who they are in a certain way.”

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN HISTORY, WHAT FASHION ERA WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE IN?
”I would have loved to live in the '70s, through all the different trends – hippie, disco and punk. Fashion at the time was sending strong messages, notably of freedom. It was a key period in history.”
WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU NEVER PART FROM?
”I repeat it every time, but a silk Hermès scarf that my grandmother gave me. It’s like a good luck charm for me. I don’t even dare wear it, but I slip it into my bag for important occasions.”
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?
”I wanted to be on stage: singing, dancing, entertaining!”
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY FASHION PLEASURE?
”I love used sneakers. When I was younger, I would rush back home as soon as I left the store to get my new sneakers dirty.”
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET?
”It’s a bit cliché, but I would have loved to have been able to chat with Simone de Beauvoir, to share our points of view on society and leave the meeting having evolved.”
WHAT DO YOU NEED RIGHT NOW?
”Sunshine! We are lacking it in Paris.”
WHAT IS YOUR LATEST BEAUTY DISCOVERY?
”An Express Brush Cleaning Mat! I love this mat so much, it has made cleaning my brushes so quick and easy.”
