MEN’S TREND REPORT: WINTER 2023

Unlock exclusive insights into the latest men’s fashion trends, as revealed by H&M Man’s design team and showcased in this year’s winter lookbook.

The men’s lookbook serves as your ultimate guide to the season’s biggest trends and key pieces, while also providing impactful styling ideas for your everyday wardrobe. The latest launch introduces a curated collection of inspirational outfits categorised into four distinct style themes — Modern Sartorial, Heritage Remix, Nineties Nostalgia and Luxe Athleisure — all catering to a diverse range of moods and tastes.

"This season, we’re taking new and significant steps with our men’s collection. I’m particularly proud of the level of thought and craftsmanship that’s gone into creating each product and the contemporary expression of the final looks,” says Ross Lydon, Head of Design at H&M Man.

In exclusive interviews with H&M Magazine, the men’s design team provides expert reviews of the Winter 2023 fashion presented in the new lookbook.

SMART / MODERN SARTORIAL

“This is our sharpest fashion drop of the season, where iconic menswear pieces meet modern, sartorial garments. Reimagined outerwear classics, sleek tailoring and luxe knitwear are effortlessly styled in soft layers to emphasise the tactile material mix that hints heritage, creating an interesting play of texture throughout the collection,” says Adam Gauffin, Assortment Designer for H&M Man’s Smart concept.

“I really like that we dare to present something so minimalistic yet impactful this season,” he says. “There’s a timeless sensibility to the garments, while silhouettes feel very modern, resulting in pieces that you can keep and wear for a very long time.”

CASUAL / HERITAGE REMIX

“This winter’s heritage-inspired fashion reinvents timeless menswear classics for the modern everyday wardrobe. By blending utility and workwear aesthetics with traditional elements such as folkloric patterns, corduroy qualities and iconic outwear, we’ve created the ultimate layering essentials for a comfortably relaxed yet dapper look,” says Johanna Milvert, Assortment Designer for H&M Man’s Casual concept.

“The new Fair Isle-inspired jumpers are especially noteworthy. They’re bold yet incredibly wearable,” she says. “The collection feels luxurious, thought-through and genuine, offering a modern and slightly more grown-up approach to casual wear compared to previous seasons.”

STREET / NINETIES NOSTALGIA

“Paying homage to the ‘90s and Y2K, this expressive menswear is a celebration of the still influential pop and subcultures of the iconic fashion era. Referencing music, skate, workwear and varsity sports aesthetics, the new collection introduces nostalgic ‘it’ pieces in generous silhouettes re-envisioned for this winter season, and beyond,” says Anna Rispoli Helling, Assortment Designer for H&M Man’s Street concepts.

“I love how we’ve been able to transform the retro inspiration into something that feels fresh and new,” she says. “It’s that perfect balance that signifies this collection drop. And we’ve truly hit home with the new fits and silhouettes, especially for trousers.”

STREET / LUXE ATHLEISURE

“With the new athleisure wear, we’ve given contemporary sports aesthetics a more polished expression. Voluminous puffers are the indisputable must-haves of the season worn in monochromatic layers together with skinny denim and fresh high-top trainers. Contrast is key. Think: matte and shiny; oversized and fitted; black and white,” says Anna Rispoli Helling, Assortment Designer for H&M Man’s Street concepts.

“This style category is new for the season, and it significantly enhances the men’s collection as a whole,” she says. “It’s highly distinct, featuring fresh, wearable looks with strong international fashion relevance.”

The men’s Winter 2023 lookbook will be available to view and shop on hm.com starting 9 November.
