Introducing H&M Studio S/S19
This spring, H&M wants you to unleash your inner explorer with khaki trousers, fluid dresses and an array of delicate prints. Here's the lowdown on the hotly anticipated Studio collection.
Sturdy linen suiting, body sculpting leggings, draped sarong skirts and '80s-inspired swimwear. For spring and summer 2019 it's in to be outside, and according to H&M's design team, you should look ready to hike up a mountain, take a yoga class or sip cocktails on a lush rooftop, all at the same time.
Ahead of the collection launch, we had a chat with Pernilla Wohlfahrt, design director, and Angelica Grimborg, the designer behind the collection, to find out what inspired it, what distinguishes it from the rest of H&M's range, and what their favourite pieces are.
WHAT'S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE COLLECTION?
ANGELICA: “The starting point for the S/S19 collection was a photograph of mineral ponds in the desert in Utah. The rainbow colours in this red canyon landscape, which looks like it could be Mars, were so inspiring. The minerals are natural, even though they look man-made and synthetic. It got us thinking about escapism and wanderlust. We’ve built the collection around the idea of a glamorous explorer and her luxurious lifestyle.”

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT H&M STUDIO?
PERNILLA: “H&M Studio is our most fashion-forward offering. That said, we always want fashion to be wearable. Therefore, H&M Studio is our take on the biggest fashion trends of the season, made wearable for our customers.”
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES IN THE S/S19 COLLECTION?
ANGELICA: “The dress that I will live in this summer is the tan and black zebra print dress. It’s very flattering, with a lovely draped waist. I’d wear it with sandals or flip-flops in the day; and with boots for the evening. Then, I’ll continue wearing it into autumn with a chunky sweater.”
PERNILLA: “There are so many pieces in this S/S19 collection that would work in my wardrobe, but I can’t live without the high-waisted khaki trousers, and I’m also in love with the tangerine colour that energises the ribbed tank top and the loose-knit sweater. It’s actually a very flattering shade that will work on lots of different skin types."
H&M Studio S/S 2019 is available in selected stores and online from 21 March.
