Shorts are maybe a smidge short and it's very see through, but they are pjs after all! Not the most comfortable for sleeping in compared to a modal fabric or non-embroidered cotton, but also not scratchy at all. Top is true to size. Waist is elastic aged with no tie. Therefore, I'd go with your true size if you can deal with shorter/huggier bottoms. The top hangs over where the bottoms hug anyways. Other than the elastic, no stretch. I will say they look very expensive and would make an excellent beach coverup too!
