Interview with WARDROBE.NYC for H&M collaboration | H&M

In conversation with Christine Centenera and Josh Goot from WARDROBE.NYC

We sit down with the duo behind WARDROBE.NYC ahead of the launch of their H&M collaboration. June 24

1. What made saying yes to H&M feel right?

Josh Goot:
It offered us a moment of reflection: a chance to look back, and to look forward at the same time.
We believe in the wardrobe concept, and the H&M collaboration gave us an opportunity to distill our work into one clear message.

Christine Centenera:
We’ve always wanted to design and produce the best quality clothes that people can wear every day.
Working with H&M allowed us to fulfill that vision, and take our message to a wider audience.

2. How did you make sure this collaboration felt like WARDROBE.NYC?

Christine Centenera:
We wanted to build a wardrobe for H&M that felt essential, expressed a strong woman, and was inspired by iconic WARDROBE.NYC pieces.

Josh Goot:
The approach comes from a real, personal view and philosophy of dress. I think this honest approach has always been part of WARDROBE.NYC, and you can feel it in the H&M collaboration.

3. You dress people for a living, but what is your own uniform? What do you actually wear on a daily basis?

Christine Centenera:
Layering is a key part of the way I put things together – using wardrobe staples almost like building blocks to create an ensemble.
I also think about a silhouette, and the perfect hero piece to complete the look.

Josh Goot:
Modern dress is about the mashup. Track pants with tailoring. That's how Christine dresses in real life, and I think it says something about the way we live in today's world.

4. If you were building the definitive fall capsule from this collection, which pieces make the cut and why?

Josh Goot:
For me, autumn is about the perfect blazer and coat. I wear the technical track pants, hoodie and blazer – that’s my uniform.

Christine Centenera:
Layering and tailoring are essential for fall. In our H&M capsule, everything works together — that's the whole idea.

5. Which single piece from the collection best represents what WARDROBE.NYC actually stands for?

Josh Goot:
I think the classic double-breasted blazer and coat say timeless wardrobe essentials very clearly.

Christine Centenera:
It’s difficult to choose one – I trust these pieces completely. That trust, that reliability, is really what WARDROBE.NYC is all about.
The collection will be available in select stores and at hm.com August 6.
