I purchased the size 7-8Y for my 6Y old son. He is slim/medium-built and the set fits ok now, with not much extra room. I would size up if your son is tall and/or not super skinny. Furthermore, the material is thin,good for fall or spring. While I like this characteristic, it's something to take into consideration if you are looking for a thicker sweater, more suitable for winter. Overall 4 stars, as my son hasn't worn it yet and I haven't wash it either.
