Heritage is not static. It’s worn in motion. Passed on through time, woven into daily rituals and reinterpreted with grace.

Interview with Lorena Saravia
H&M’s latest designer collaboration is with the celebrated Mexican designer Lorena Saravia. Lorena’s deep connection to her cultural heritage, her appreciation for the strength and resilience of women, and her poetic approach to fashion design are at the heart of the collection. From her highly coveted cowboy boots to chaps and mini dresses, each piece showcases Lorena’s signature aesthetic.
"Heritage and legacy are about creating pieces with a story and soul."
How would you define your brand's signature aesthetic?
Lorena Saravia's DNA is all about the contemporary woman who embodies multiple roles. We create timeless, handmade pieces with integrity — blending Mexican heritage with a global appeal. It's about crafting something that speaks to the multifaceted lives women lead today.
What is the essence of Lorena Saravia H&M?
I think that the essence of this collaboration is natural, sophisticated and Mexican contemporary. It's about blending our heritage with modern design to create something unique and powerful.
What does heritage mean to you?
Heritage and legacy are about creating pieces with a story and soul. The garments and accessories should be timeless and resonate with the wearer's personal history. This collaboration was about making something that lasts, both in terms of quality and emotional connection.
The collection feels deeply personal. How have the women in your life influenced you?
Growing up, sewing was a communal activity. It was a way to express creativity and support each other. My grandmother, my great-grandmother and all of the women in my family have instilled in me the values of integrity and passion. They taught me to be true to myself and to create with love and authenticity.
"We wanted to honor the past while creating something new and meaningful."
How was this embodied in the collection?
When you have something that belonged to someone in your family and it passes on through generations, that item takes on a special energy and meaning. These items carry heritage, which we incorporated into the garments. We wanted to honor the past while creating something new and meaningful. For instance, the lion motif that appears in the collection comes from my grandmother's earrings. It symbolizes the strength and power of Mexican women.
Are there other elements in the collection that reflect Mexican heritage?
Yes, we used an earthy color palette to represent the natural beauty of Mexico. Elements like the laser-cut papel picado dress and the petate rugs referenced in the accessories highlight my cultural roots. It’s all about blending the artisanal with the contemporary to create pieces that tell a story.
What is your creative process when designing a collection?
I have an obsession with antique photographs and a vast collection of family photographs from 1921 to today. These photos always influence my creative process. My designs are a mix of personal history and broader cultural themes. Each collection starts with a concept, like the Day of the Dead, which then evolves.
Tell us about the iconic Lorena Saravia boots.
The boots are inspired by the strong, fearless women of Mexico, not the generic cowgirl look. We're creating our own authentic ranch-girl aesthetic. It's about celebrating the unique strength and beauty of Mexican women.
Is there anything else you would like to say about Lorena Saravia H&M?
For me, it's not just a collaboration. The connection that I have with the H&M creative team and all the pieces — those discussions, those creative processes, those observations of the details of the patterns and the results that came out — it’s such a unique experience. I'm hyperaware that you have to enjoy and be present in all of these conversations: in the meetings, in the fittings, in the designing process. You really have to be conscious that it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's a jewel. I think this is historical for Mexican fashion.
